Active transportation of salt out of the roots via the phloem
Salt that does accumulate in the shoot is compartmentalised in the vacuole, this is osmotically balanced as the plant synthesises organic solutes (e.g. proline, an amino acid) in the cytoplasm
Suaeda is a succulent; stored water dilutes the concentration of toxic salt.
Rounded leaves afford less drag when the plant is submerged
