Juncus maritimus

The sea rush, Juncus maritimus

The sea rush, Juncus maritimus is found towards the top end of salt marshes near the end of the successional sequence. It grows in dense aggregations which provide shady moist conditions at the base of the plants. This can allow some shade tolerant species from earlier in the succession to begin grow again.
